TAD Directive

As I drove to work this morning and was pondering my next tattoo (which will be homage to the children in my life) a statement stuck in my mind. I want the tattoo to represent what they mean to me and how I want them to grow to be. Then I remembered the TAD directive. Devised years ago to guide me as I did work for Uncle Sam, it’s a trivial acronym that has burned its way into my being. Of all the random stuff I have carried for my life this one has taught and kept me on my path.

TAD stands for Think Act Deal. Three simple words but oh do they mean so much more. THINK as this skill is disappearing in today’s age it is critical that you NEVER forget it. Even in that life changing, time stops and the Zen like calm of a life stops everything there is time to THINK. Give it a second and think and I mean really think about it. What will this cost? Where will it take me? Can I live with my choice? Seems like a child’s nursery rhyme but so often we forget that a moment of thought could prevent a lifetime of regret.

ACT; now we are talking and let’s get it on! Actions lead to consequence and consequence is that big world that we carry for life. Acting without thought rarely goes well. Those people who say they do not think have either been in that situation enough to develop the memory of it or are lucky to have survived it. Act with authority and fluid confidence which is in all of us. You have THOUGHT about it, weighed it out and now as a true force of nature you will ACT.

T and A are done, now we DEAL with it. Of all the steps this is the hard one. Here we may have to bow, apologize, regret, fear reprisal or just live with the gravity of our actions. To many times many people shrug it off as it is nothing and forget about it. Take no action lightly and think it through. You know those choices we made that were “not so good”? The best part of it was when we stood up and said “I did it”. Ownership not only gives a true path it also lets others know who and what you are. Respect is earned and never given! We may hate a mistake but I will at least think better of someone if they stand up and bear the burden of their choice.

THINK as if your world depends on it
ACT with every ounce of life you have
DEAL by holding your head high owning your action

Why they call it falling

I guess Lee Ann Womack nailed it when she belted that song out. How many times have we been there? We say we are not going to fall for someone and then out of the blue, one little smile and its all out the window. Before we know what has happened we are picking ourselves up off the floor in pieces. More times that I would like to say, I have been hurt by caring too much.   Even more times than that I have sworn that I would not care and I would be ok with this one. Yet I continue to get hurt and am a friend to many who do the same thing. Is it so bad? I would rather go through life with pain than to live with nothing. Pain reminds me I am alive and that I still care. It is a burden to bare a life lived without emotions. We are creatures of love and compassion. We live our lives trying to be a part of something and more of that time is spent trying to care. We gauge ourselves and others on how they care. We almost set ourselves up to cause and feel pain. Many even try to end thing...

Life: Is It Yours?

Life is such a beautiful gift which we often squander. Possessions, fame, notoriety and simple vain drama leads us to merely travel through life. As I stated on Facebook the other day, I fought to get into this world and my life is a constant struggle, yet I cherish every second of it. Several times I have looked into the darkness and had it look back only to awake me from my momentary lapse of reason and fight for my life. Never do we fight as hard as we do when life is involved. Be it ours, a loved one or in the line of duty we fight for life. Yet so many of us do not own the life we are given. As Americans we believe in a rich life filled with stuff and status points, sadly though many of us are not living. Life is for the living and not those merely burdened by the “status possession monster”. Sound like a load of crap? Do yourself a favor and ask yourself some questions. As you sit alone and honest with yourself be truthful and ask if you are living or surviving. I often am survi...

What Shall We Do?

In a conversation the other night I recanted my limited knowledge on dealing with “your equal”. Some love to view people as equals and place them high upon that pedestal but do they truly belong there? Equals is a term that may need to be better defined. As we take a hard look at ourselves in all our glory and flaws what do you see? Many see what they want, a few see what they hope to be and even less see that part of ourselves that others love. So now that we sized our self up and accepted it, what do we do with it? Many relationships are built on some form of dependence. I can honestly say that I am grown and don’t need a mother, cook, maid or some spineless rug for me to walk all over.  As I say all too often, that is not the skill set you are “applying for”.  In all this voyage of life sometimes we meet “ourselves in others” and then it gets interesting. Finally a true equal who is worth the title but yet we are at a loss of how to deal with this person. To many times it...
